The Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval cirque

This is the most popular and famous place in Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval. Closing the east side of the Giffre valley, it is a huge chalk amphitheatre which stretches over 4 to 5 km, with steep cliffs above of up to 2000 metres high. It’s the largest mountainous cirque in the Alps, with the majestic Corne du Chamois towering above. When the snow melts, thirty or so waterfalls appear from the cliffs, adding another layer of beauty to this magnificent landscape.

The valley and its villages

This is a lively and dynamic valley, steeped in the atmosphere of the Giffre, where each village tells a rich story. These villages, which line the Giffre river are amongst the most beautiful in the county and bear witness to the skills of their stone-mason ancestors. In addition to the traditional homes, there are walking routes to discover local chapels, a short walking itinerary to Lornaz with information boards and the ecomuseum of Clos Parchet where you can explore the rich culture of the valley.

Flaine, a resort like no other

The site of Flaine was discovered in 1959 by Eric Boissonas and the architect Gérard Chevraz and Is the result of their bold vision. They decided to create a model of urban planning and contemporary architecture where aesthetic appeal and respect for the environment were particularly important. Designed by the architect Marcel Breuer, one of the pioneers of modern architecture, the resort stands out for its concrete buildings with simple geometric shapes and pure lines.

The Platé desert

With stunning views of Mont-Blanc, the limestone plateau of Platé stretches for over 1980 hectares. Formed from lapiaz, sculpted by glaciers, and melt waters, it is famous as being one of the largest in Europe. Accessible by the Grandes Platières gondola, or by a walking path for the more daring, this plateau has an almost lunar appearance, from where it gets its nickname as a desert.
