Green Key label for MGM residences:
A commitment to protecting the mountains
The Green Key label is the first international label for environmentally sustainable tourism to be awarded to tourist accommodation and restaurants in France. It commits structures to a concrete approach to preserving the environment and resources. Mindful of the issues involved and the importance of strengthening its environmental commitment, MGM Hôtels & Résidences has decided to have all its tourist residences approved for the label, emphasising its genuine commitment to sustainable development.
Reducing your environmental impact
The certification process for MGM tourist residences involves several stages, including signing up to the Green Key charter, carrying out an environmental assessment to identify the actions to be taken, and implementing monitoring indicators to measure the efficiency of the action plan and identify areas where improvements are required. Only after a number of regular inspections by an approved certification organisation can the label be obtained and granted for a period of one year.
A commitment to sustainable, responsible tourism
Among the major objectives of this label, we find the question of eco-mobility, which involves limiting and optimising travel as well as facilitating the use of more ecological means of transport for employees. The topic of Energy is crucial through the increased use of renewable energies, the more bioclimatic design of constructions, the optimisation of the use of solar radiation and the natural ventilation of buildings. The aim is also to gradually reduce the energy consumption of buildings by 10% each year.
Implementing a range of specific actions
The Green Key label is awarded for one year and is a guarantee of more sustainable tourism in establishments that commit to the following actions:
- Staff training in good environmental and social practices.
- Supporting local activities and associations.
- Raising customer awareness of eco-actions and responsible activities.
- Responsible purchasing of groceries and cleaning products.
- Reducing waste and ensuring recycling and collections are properly managed.
- Efficient energy management: energy-saving lighting and fittings, responsible use of energy.
- Preserving water resources by using water-saving equipment, controlling leaks and paying attention to water quality.
- Improving the living environment and taking actions to preserve biodiversity.
All MGM tourist residences have signed up to the Green Key charter and are committed to the certification process as soon as it opens. To date, 11 MGM residences have been awarded the label, and the latest, the Akoya residence in Valmorel, which opened its doors in December, is in the process of being awarded the label later this year.
