The ski area

In the heart of the Aravis mountains there are no fewer than 215km of ski slopes, served by a network of 73 ski lifts, offering fast and easy access to the different ski areas. Whether you prefer the variety of slopes in La Clusaz, connected to the charming village-resort of Manigod, or the warm and friendly atmosphere in Le Grand-Bornand, with slopes suited to skiers of all abilities, there is something for everyone on the snowy slopes of this wonderful ski area.

Gastronomy

In the heart of the Aravis mountains, local gastronomy is an important part of the identity and the embodiment of a way of life. With a population almost as numerous as the cows (mainly of the Abondance breed), the villages of La Clusaz, Le Grand-Bornand, Manigod and Saint-Jean de Sixt are considered to be the birthplace of Reblochon cheese. From cheese-maturing cellars to farmhouse cheese-making workshops, pastoral traditions and dedicated museums, the Aravis mountains continue to passionately uphold their traditional ancestral recipes.

The Aravis villages

The Aravis mountains contains the villages of La Clusaz, Le Grand-Bornand, Manigod and Saint Jean de Sixt. Keeping all the authentic charm of mountain villages with traditional architecture, this is one of the rare places in the Alps where tourism and agriculture have been combined harmoniously.

With a history spanning more than 5 centuries, the villages in the Aravis region do all they can to preserve their rich cultural heritage. There are many well-preserved 200-year-old chalets, as we can see in Le Grand Bornand where there are more than 400 in this village alone. Between the lively markets, the fun and friendly winter evenings which last well into the night, and the emergent museums dedicated to cultural enrichment, there’s no denying that authenticity is more than just a concept in the Aravis mountains.

Lake Annecy

Annecy, known as the Venice of the Alps because of its charming old town and its beautiful turquoise lake is just 30 minutes from the Aravis mountains. The picturesque narrow streets are perfect for strolling around while the lake has a wide range of water sports activities to suit all tastes.
